Caring About Carers
Penny Mordaunt has paid tribute to Britain’s carers along with This Morning’s resident GP Dr Chris Steele as Parliament marks the start of Carers Week 2010 and its theme, ‘A Life of My Own’.

Penny said

“Carers often don’t think that they’re doing anything out of the ordinary, or realise the toll the care they provide through love and kindness is taking on their own health.

Carers Week’s ‘A Life of My Own’ theme reminds us that there is no such thing as free time or being off duty for a carer. Britain’s carers perform their duties not because they have to, but because they want to, which is even more reason why they deserve time off for themselves. We cannot take carers for granted and we must show our appreciation for what they do, and I hope that Carers Week will help people all over the country to find out that there is help and support available to them.”

Dr Chris, who has long been a champion for the health and wellbeing of the country’s millions of carers, said

“I am delighted to give my continuing support for Carers Week and its focus on a carer’s right to ‘A life of my own’. Many non-carers take their free-time for granted, whether it’s going to the cinema or meeting with family and friends. As a GP I have met many carers who have never received any help or respite.

I know how carers’ own health and well-being has suffered as a consequence and just how isolated they can feel. Who is caring for the carers? Change is needed at grassroots level and Carers Week is vital in raising awareness and promoting carers’ issues.”

Carers Week runs from 14 June – 20 June 2010 and campaigns for greater recognition and support for carers; to ensure that all carers know that they are not alone, and that help and services are available.

Other celebrities supporting Carers Week, all of whom have had experience of caring, include: Lynda Bellingham, Cilla Black, Jonathan Dimbleby, Gloria Hunniford, Sir David Jason, Claire King, Phyllida Law, Miriam Margolyes, Esther Rantzen, Angela Rippon and Tony Robinson.

Carers Week is organised by a partnership of 7 national charities: Carers UK, Counsel and Care, Crossroads Care, Help the Hospices, Macmillan Cancer Support, Parkinson’s UK and The Princess Royal Trust for Carers.

PENNY MEETS PORTSMOUTH RESIDENTS AND LAUNCHES HER RESIDENTS SURGERY

Penny Mordaunt and her team setup a stall at Tesco North Harbour to meet Portsmouth residents and launch Penny’s new resident surgery, giving constituents the chance to see their MP face to face.

Penny provided literature and flyers advertising her new constituency surgery. The new surgery has been setup so that any resident of Portsmouth North can book an appointment to come and see Penny with any issues and problems that they feel can be helped by their local MP.

The surgery will run every Friday (3pm - 7pm).

Penny Mordaunt travelled to Wembley for the cup final. As a local Pompey supporter she was keen to see her team play at the FA cup final against Chelsea FC on Saturday 15th May 2010. Wembley stadium played host to the two teams and the thousands of cheering Pompey supporters.

“Commiserations to all Portsmouth fans, but making the final, especially considering the distractions the club has had is a huge achievement. I am confident the blue army will be back!”

PENNY MORDAUNT WINS ELECTION! After one of the most intense and innovative General Election campaigns to ever be fought, Penny Mordaunt overturned the previous 1,300 Labour majority and polled her own landslide 7000 majority vote.

After an eight hour count at the Portsmouth Guildhall, suspense was running high. But Conservative candidate was overwhelmingly voted for by the people of Portsmouth North. They voted for change. They voted for Penny, who has a track record of hard work, passionate work and working hard within the community.

A great result for a well deserved candidate. The future is bright and Penny Mordaunt is one to watch.

Labours Failure... 13 Years On.

As the General Election approaches the final stretch, Conservatives released a report card revealing Labour’s failure across the English regions. On the key issues of concern to voters, Labour have spent billions yet failed to improve the quality of life for many millions of people across the country.
Commenting, Conservative Party Chairman Eric Pickles said:
“Today we’re holding Labour to account. Thirteen years of Labour and what we’re left with is a budgetary black hole and more empty promises. If I were a teacher, I’d look at Labour’s record in the South East and give them an ‘F’.”
Conservatives released a “report card” of Labour’s record of failure in the regions. The report card looks at Labour’s record on jobs, the economy, crime, NHS, education and transport.

Conservatives Back All Three Navy Bases!

Today, the Conservative Party and Liam fox publicly announced the Conservatives commitment to the Defence sector, including all three navy bases in the UK.

Liam Fox, shadow minister for defence visited Portsmouth, the navy base and BAE systems shipyards to launch the defence policy of the Conservatives.

NH-YES! NHS Street Campaign!

Penny Mordaunt and her campaign team took to the streets of Portsmouth to raise awareness of the fantastic NHS campaign... something that Penny has campaigned on and for over five years.

Penny is a member of the ‘League of Friends‘ at the Queen Alexandra hospital, Cosham and has been a keen champion of both local and NHS trusts. “The service provided by the NHS is first class and I am pleased that it is our number one policy. We are proud of the NHS and want to see it continue to prosper”.
