Exporting is Great
Penny Mordaunt MP hosted the Department for International Trade at 2000 Lakeside, Portsmouth today. The Department of Trade set up a special 'Exporting is Great' mobile hub which is currently touring the country.
Businesses looking to export, or expand their existing export operation were able to discuss their specific needs, engage with department officials and trade experts. New government online tools, specific industry networking contact databases and 'one to one' expert advisor tools were also made available to all who attended today's event.
Penny Mordaunt said, "This is a real opportunity for businesses in the city and across the area. The International Department of Trade has a huge amount of tools, support and resources at their disposal to assist businesses big and small"
"Often local businesses who have a great product and who want to export, are unsure or unaware of the help that is available. Today has seen a fantastic engagement opportunity for those businesses seeking that help to enter into international export markets."
"Already, there are requests for a further event to be set up to support businesses who are wishing to increase or start trading internationally through our port here in Portsmouth."
The Department for International Trade also reported today's Office for National Statistics figures shows that in 2017/2018 exports have risen by 7.3% to £620.2bn. Exports have increased faster than imports and the trade deficit has narrowed by 7.7bn. (Source: Office of National Statistics, June 2018).
